WINCHESTER Mod. 88 "Super Grade" .308W
WINCHESTER
Rifles
Category : C
Caliber : .308 Winch.
A rare WINCHESTER Mod. 88 "Super Grade" made at New Haven factory in 1971.
This .308 Winchester caliber rifle with a 22" barrel is the manual repeating version of the Mod.100 semi-auto rifle from the same maker. The operation calls upon the traditional lever, but the modernism preserved the removable five shots magazine.
Construction is all machined blued steel.
In order to reduce to nothing the risks presented by its usually capricious transverse button, the safety has been permanently blocked.
The stock in very beautiful American walnut [Juglans Nigra] retains the traditional model shape with the addition of an ebony butt and grip cap, a beaded cheekpiece and a very neat hand checkering. The butt pad is an old ½" PACHMAYR "White Line" typical of the era and the LOP reads 14".
A Five Cents Indian head silver coin has been embedded in the center of the grip cap.
The barrel carries the traditional LYMAN mod.66 folding rear sight and a front sight on an elongated ramp welded in front of the suppressor thread protector.
A one-piece REDFIELD Jr. base with integrated peep sight supports a steel WEAVER K3-60B, 3x magnification scope with post & cross-hair reticle.
The set, perfectly sighted at the range, weighs 8lb 10 oz, scope and mount included, and this Mod. 88 rifle is delivered with a second new in box magazine.
