Caliber : .350 Rigby Magnum
A very rare "Sporting Rifle" made in the second half of the thirties by RIGBY, 43 Sackville Street, London, and sold to KEEP Bros (1) in Birmingham, on March 24th, 1939.
This rifle has been built on a No.17 magnum square bridge Original Mauser action produced in Oberndorf in 1925.
The 24" barrel holds the profile associated with the London Gunmakers; it retains the traditional Rigby' flat and carries a set of express sights consisting of a No.2 rear sight with three platinum lined wide V leaves regulated at 100, 300 and 400 yards on a fine front bead set on short ramp under sliding protector.
The No.17 magnum action, specifically manufactured by Mauser for the .350 Magnum cartridge benefits of a five shots magazine and benefits of a rear square bridge in which is dovetailed the rear mounting plate of the H&H scope mount whose front lock is affixed on the receiver left side. This mount for Ø 30mm tube scope is remarkably executed and its rings are numbered to the rifle.
The original double stage trigger travel is reduced to single stage by the addition of an axis in the window of the trigger guard, a customary modification on the Rigby and more particularly on their "Big Game Rifles".
In addition, in order to facilitate the use of the scope, the safety flag has given way to a two-position side-swing safety with gold details.
Of course the original markings are all present, perfectly sharp and untouched. The barrel is engraved in Old English John Rigby & Co, 43 Sackville St. London while the front receiver ring bears the simple three lines mention "RIGBY .350 MAGNUM"
The stock, made of good and beautiful French walnut, has no cheek piece and retains the established style of the maker. The forend is short, the well-rounded grip is slightly elongated and the 14½" LOP stock ends on an English ?" red butt pad.
The trapped grip cap, the recoil bolts, the trigger and the safety lever are bone and charcoal color case hardened while all other parts are deep black blued with the exception of the nitre blued extractor and ejector blades.
This rare RIGBY weighs 8lb 4oz and 8lb 9oz scope mount fitted.
The rifle has been the subject of meticulous maintenance and of an extremely careful no expense spared overhaul during the fitting of the H&H scope mount in England but it retains absolutely all its original parts and remains in a surprising state of freshness.
It corresponds point by point to the description in manufacturer ledger, as they were kind enough to communicate it to us.
This beautiful vintage rifle supports our unconditional guarantee.
