FAMARS "Castore" 20GA pair
FAMARS ABBIATICO & SALVINELLI
Shotguns
Category : D
Caliber : 20/70mm/2¾"
Very rare FAMARS "Castore" small bore pair, made in 1977 by Abbiatico & Salvinelli for Louis Pallard in Marseille.
The "Castore" is a superb side-by-side ejector hammer gun whose sidelocks are automatically cocked at the barrels opening.
This 20GA chambered pair is fitted with 27" chopper lump barrels choked improved cylinder and improved modified.
On the barrel assembly the rear lug bears the signatures of the craftsmen who made these two guns.
The narrow action retains the double beaded oval fences that characterize these shotguns and the rear spring sidelocks benefit from bouncing hammers, while the first trigger is hinged and H&H automatic ejectors control the large rimmed cartridges extractors.
The remarkable engraving leaves a large part to the polished surfaces underlined with gold inlays that also adorn the tubes start and illuminate the markings. The hammers are elegantly chiseled and besides the gold crown adorning the opening key, the specific elements to each gun are marked with a Roman number I or II in gold. This beautiful ornamentation is the work of Bottega C. Giovanelli.
If all the action, sidelocks and trims are finished in nitride tempered polished steel, the tubes are browned tobacco color.
The well-matched 14¼" English stocks are made of figured French walnut with thin black rubber butt pads.
These two side-by-side guns have hunted several seasons, but thanks to well cared maintenance they are in a perfect mechanical state with absolutely untouched barrels mirror bores, and if the barrel opening remains slightly soft there is no play.
The functioning is irreproachable and on each gun the ejectors are perfectly synchronized.
These guns, perfectly balanced at the pivot axis, weigh 6lbs 1oz.
They are presented in their original leather case with Abbiatico & Salvinelli label and accessories.
