The Galas ZG 47 developed by the Ceskoslovenská Zbrojovka Brno, Národní Podnik represents for many the epitome of the large ring 98' Mauser system development.
Although designed in 1947, these rifles were shortly produced in small quantities from 1950 and total production, all calibers combined, does not exceed 20,000 units. Their marketing ceased in the early sixties.
This 30-06 US sample in superb condition, a deluxe version recognizable by its oval cheekpiece and grip cap, has been proofed in 1957.
The action designed by Otakar Galas is a modernized version of the 98' Mauser, fitted with a remarkable low scope safety on a special shroud and a double square bridge receiver with integral milled dovetail grooves to accept 19mm standard sliding scope mounts, the same ones always used on the current CZ550.
The single stage trigger is finely tunable and the magazine benefit of an opening floorplate locked by an Oberndorf type latch inside the trigger guard bow.
The perfect bore 24" Poldi steel barrel is chambered for the universal 30-06 and sports, on bands, a windage adjustable rear sight and a quick interchangeable bead front sight engaged on a knurled ramp.
The 14" LOP stock, made of good European walnut, fitted with a 0,8" Pachmayr 752 butt pad, adopts a continental classic shape with a light schnabel ending the forearm.
This rifle in perfect condition weighs 7lb 14oz.
