PURDEY
Shotguns
Category : C
Caliber : 12/65mm/2½"
PURDEY “Best Gun”, made in 1901, incorporating the traditional Frederick BEESLEY side locks & automatic opening system associated to WEM ejectors and PURDEY double sliding bolts.
Operation is perfect, with no play and the ejectors are rigorously timed.
This gun bears 30" chopper lump barrels whose perfectly polished tubes display Ø.731" bores with 1/10° and 2/10° tapered chokes.
The traditional extremely fine "Best Bouquet & Scroll" engraving is certainly the work of Harry KELL, executed within SAUNDERS & KELL, which, at that time, processed the majority of Audley House's best guns.
The action, while having turned gray, retains some traces of the original color hardening.
The straight stock, made of nicely figured French walnut, show a 14½" LOP measured on the thin leather-covered butt pad.
This fine side by side is presented in its original PURDEY oak and leather case with labels, tags and accessories.
The net weight of this superbly balanced shotgun is only 6lb 11oz.
